QB Tuesday

OK, so I was wrong about the Browns. Who could've guessed that?

Fine, fine, but Steve Young has mighty Joseph Smith and Brigham Young on his side. That's like "Jesus fighting a bear" kind of magic. Speaking of Steve Young, how obvious is it that he loathes Emmitt Smith? I guess it's because of all the Cowboys/49ers shit that went on in the 90s. Or it's because Emmitt Smith is fucking terrible at his job. I'd rather listen to Michael Irvin giving literary analysis on Dickensian social commentary of Victorian England than listen to Emmitt Smith uttering a sentence of football commentary. It's a shame, really. He certainly didn't rush for 18,000 or whatever yards with his brain.

Eli Manning looked positively shell shocked in tonight's contest. He always looks like this, yes, but this time he was throwing pick-sixes in the red zone. I would venture to guess that Plaxico's absence from the team hurt his chemistry with Manning, but that's no excuse for Manning's miscues with other receivers, especially the pick-six in question (which was an underthrown ball to an otherwise open Amani Toomer). And where was the Giants' defense? All I've heard the past few weeks is how the team doesn't miss Strahan or Umenyiora. What I saw tonight would suggest otherwise. And against Cleveland's line? I heard comparisons between D.A. and Tom Brady tonight. Tom Brady?! It's all because D.A. had time to place his passes. The Giants' pass rush was non-existent.

Give credit to Cleveland. I don't mean to make it sound like the Giants lost this game more than the Browns won it. The Browns had to win this one, and they did. They did it against what many considered to be the best team in the league. They did it on national TV. They did it convincingly. All of that said, the Giants have problems. Tom Coughlin's clock management at the end of the game was Romeo Crennel-like. Meaning it sucked. Eli Manning threw three avoidable picks. The Giants D couldn't get any penetration.

I see the Giants bouncing back next week against San Fran. I also see the Skins bouncing back against tonight's Browns next week. I don't see Pittsburgh releasing its grip on the AFC North. They find ways to win even when they have holes in their running game and O-line.

But tonight, tonight, the Browns looked awfully good against the defending champs. Any given Sunday/Monday, I guess.
